Gottfried & Somberg Wealth Management, LLC, is Joshua B. Gottfried, and Matthew A. Somberg. We are dedicated professionals with diverse backgrounds, working together to help make our clients' retirement goals become reality. Each of us is a registered representative with Commonwealth Financial Network®, Member FINRA/SIPC.


Joshua Gottfried is a founder and principal of Gottfried & Somberg Wealth Management, LLC. 

He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional and has worked in the financial services industry for the past eleven years helping hundreds of clients understand their retirement options. With his patient, insightful approach, Josh breaks down complex financial decisions into small easily understandable steps.

Josh specializes in helping clients as they near retirement and through their retirement.  As a CFP® professional, Josh has met rigorous education, examination, and experience requirements to provide comprehensive financial planning guidance and is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct while working for his clients.  Josh has completed his Personal Financial Planning Certificate, confirming his expertise in investment and risk management, pension and social security planning, and analyzing Medicare and health insurance plans.  Josh also holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designation.

Josh has published articles in Financial Planning Magazine, in which he shares his expertise on Social Security benefits, and most recently, an article to help other financial planners understand recent changes in the 403b regulations.  Josh has also been quoted in Morningstar, Investment Advisor magazine and The New York Times Money blog.  In 2011 Joshua was named a Five Star Wealth Manager for the second time in Connecticut Magazine by Crescendo Business Services1.

As an Investment Adviser Representative and Registered Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network, member FINRA/SIPC, a Registered Investment Advisor, Josh does not offer any proprietary products. Rather, his holistic approach to financial management allows him to choose the most appropriate recommendation for each of his clients.

Josh has done philanthropic work for The House of Bread, the American Cancer Society, and many others. Besides donations of money and time, Josh also manages two endowments, and sits on the Board at Beth El Temple in West Hartford.

Josh loves running, hiking and camping and is an avid reader of 19th and early 20th century American history. He lives in downtown Hartford with his wife, Laura, their sons, Jacob and Rafi and their Italian greyhound, Baci.

Matthew Somberg is a principal and founder of Gottfried & Somberg Wealth Management, LLC, an independent investment and financial services firm.

Matthew is a registered representative of Commonwealth Financial Network®, member FINRA/SIPC, an independent broker/dealer with a national network of more than 1,300 financial professionals, which has been recognized ten times as Broker/Dealer of the Year by Investment Advisor magazine1. From 2007 thru 2011 he was named to Commonwealth's Leaders Club, which recognizes the top 5 percent of Commonwealth advisors. In 2010 & 2011 Matthew was named to the Commonwealth Chairman's Club which honors the top 40 Commonwealth Advisors nationally. Also in 2010 & 2011 Matthew was named a Five Star Wealth Managers by Crescendo Business Services2. In 2011 Matthew was named as one of the Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors in America by Registered Rep Magazine3.

Matthew holds numerous professional registrations and certifications, including the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designation, the FINRA Series 6, 7, 63, and 66 securities registrations; and his Connecticut Life and Health license. He maintains client relationships and maintains registrations to practice and serve clients in many states throughout the country.

He entered the financial services and investment industry in 1999.

Matthew has presented for—and is frequently requested by—various school teachers unions and school administrative unions to educate Connecticut educators on their pension, benefits, social security, and overall retirement planning strategies. Since 2000, Matthew has presented public workshops to more than 5,000 public school educators and their families.

Matthew is an honors graduate of Brandeis University, with degrees in both economics and history. He is a member of the Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society, and his writings on the effects of North American Free Trade Agreement have been published.

He is member of the Board of Trustees of Kol Haverim Synagogue in Glastonbury. He is a member of the Brandeis University Alumni Association and Glastonbury Hills Country Club. He supports many charitable organizations and foundations such as Connecticut Children's Medical Center, the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, and the University of Rhode Island General Scholarship Fund. Matthew enjoys reading and is an avid marathon runner and triathlete. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Amy, and father to his daughter, Ella, and son, Eli. They reside in South Glastonbury, Connecticut.

    Dan Heffernan started at Gottfried & Somberg Wealth Management, LLC in May 2006 after graduating with honors from Northeastern University where he earned his bachelor's degree. Specializing in client relations and investment analysis, Dan has a unique blend of interpersonal skills and financial planning abilities. His focus is ensuring that the quality of service that LGS strives to offer is actually delivered to each and every single client.

Dan holds numerous professional certifications, including FINRA Series 6, 63, and 65 securities registrations and also has Connecticut Life and Health designation. He also looks forward to soon earning his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification. Dan is a registered representative of Commonwealth Financial Network, member FINRA/SIPC, an independent broker/dealer.

When not in the office, Dan enjoys reading, traveling, and keeping active playing sports.


   

Jim DeMartino, CFP®, joined Gottfried & Somberg Wealth Management, LLC in October 2009.

Jim is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional with 12 years experience in the financial industry. 

In addition to meeting with clients and helping them plan for their retirement, Jim is involved in all areas of financial planning, including research, analysis and assisting with customer service.  Jim's knowledge of the various aspects of financial planning, combined with his strong organizational skills and his personable, welcoming style, makes him a joy to work with for our clients and a valuable addition to our team.  In addition to his CFP® certification, Jim holds Series 7 and 66 securities registrations, and is insurance licensed for life, variable life and annuities, health and long term care.

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Jim has resided in Connecticut for the past 8 years.  Jim earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Yale University, where he also taught for 5 years.  In his spare time, he enjoys drawing and painting, listening to jazz, reading and playing guitar.



   

Kim Skerry began working with Matt Somberg and Josh Gottfried in August 2009 as Director of Operations. A native of Rhode Island, Kim has over thirty years experience working in financial service and insurance industries.

Kim holds numerous professional financial registrations, including FINRA Series 6, 7, 63, 65 and 24 (held through Commonwealth Financial Network.) She also holds life, property/casualty and long term care licenses.



   

Mary LeBlanc joined the Gottfried & Somberg Wealth Management, LLC Team in February of 2010. She has 28 yrs experience in the financial and insurance industries. Mary's work experience includes positions held as Senior Analyst and Project Manager in the Trust, Pension, and Medicare Claims departments of Connecticut National Bank, The Travelers, Aetna, and Connecticare. Prior to her business career Mary taught 2nd grade in the Bristol school system and was also a substitute teacher for the Wethersfield school system. Mary and her husband have two grown children and three grandchildren.



   

Nicholas Hogrefe began his career at Gottfried & Somberg Wealth Management, LLC in June 2011. A native of Woodbury, CT, Nick is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a bachelor's degree in finance.

Nicholas holds the title of paraplanner and works closely with Matthew Somberg in preparing client investment and financial reports. Nick also oversees investment trading execution for Matt's clients.

Nick also holds the Connecticut Life and Health designation and in his spare time Nick enjoys playing basketball and weightlifting.
